Army Engineer dies in Basilan ambush




 
FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City --- While travelling towards their unit headquarters in Ungkaya Pukan in Basilan, members of the Army’s 55th Engineering Brigade were fired upon by unspecified number of lawless elements at around 3 p.m. today (Nov 5).
 
One soldier died instantly while two others were injured as a result of the shooting incident.

 
The two wounded soldiers were promptly evacuated to Brgy. Magcawa in Al Barka town while waiting for air medical evacuation transport.


The soldiers came from nearby Tipo-tipo town for some administrative tasks for their unit.
 
The identities of the victims were withheld as per military protocol. The local police has promptly conducted an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive for the attack.
 
The Army Engineers were deployed in Ungkaya Pukan town to help construct school buildings and also the implementation of the Basilan circumferential road project.
 
Col Carlito Galvez, Jr, Commanding Officer of the 104thBrigade, has sent soldiers of the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion to pursue the perpetrators of the crime.
