MARAMAG, Bukidnon---A ranking NPA leader brought all his members in a mass surrender of communist rebels in Southern Bukidnon today (November 14).
Benjamin Salusad a.k.a. Ka Loloy, the head of the rebel group operating in the towns of San Fernando and Valencia, trooped to the military camp in Maramag town with sixty-six of his followers which include 10 female members.
The group carried 24 high-powered firearms and 1 low-powered firearms with them when they were met by Colonel Romeo Gapuz, the Commander of the Army's 403rd Brigade at around 11:00am inside the headquarters of the 8th Infantry Battalion here.
"I am fed up by the unfulfilled promises given by our leaders in the rebel movement. We had suffered so much after all the hardships that we endured in the mountains. I want to avail of the livelihood program given by the government and be a partner in bringing solution to this insurgency problem," Salusad was quoted as saying.
The effective collaboration among various agencies of the government including the help of tribal leaders was attributed to the peaceful surrender of the rebels.
"I welcome you all back to the folds of the law. We need the Bayanihan spirit to sort out the root causes of this insurgency problem and find the appropriate solutions to address them," said Gapuz.
